Memoirs of Summer

Memoirs of Summer

This summer was spent with family – could be an uncle from the US who hasn’t visited for ten years now; or maybe with friends for a trip that you have been planning since the cool months; or maybe that one special person who is also your lifelong travel buddy.

And it was a summer unlike any other.  The sweltering heat, the sparkle of the sand, the crowd all makes up for a collage worth of memories.

There were nights spent in revelry along the bars on the beachfront; or, nights where you surround a bonfire with friends and stories for a relief against the chill of the sea wind.

Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it’s fine white sand or a beach peppered with round pebbles.  Nor does it matter that the ocean is calm or the waves come crashing where you lay down sunbathing.

These memories of summer are more precious than memories of previous summers.  In today’s busy world, the values of relationship are oftentimes replaced with online communication and the distraction of technology.  And it comes to this – that summer is that escape where we all go back to only the basic and the bigger importance of the things that are much simpler than our everyday routines.
