Tanning Clinics – Is it safe?

Sunless tanning are in demand nowadays.  If you don’t want to be exposed to too much sun but still want that sun-kissed glow then it’s the right thing for you. However, is it really safe to choose indoor tanning?

When natural sunlight is hard to be seen, it might be tempting to replace time in the sun with a quick visit to a tanning bed.  But does tanning clinics provide the same healthy benefits as sunlight?  Particularly, are tanning beds a safe source of vitamin D?

Tanning salons might like you to believe they are. Don’t be fooled and be cautious. Tanning indoors is not a good source of vitamin D. The reason is because of the harmful characteristics and effects of ultraviolet light rays, and the effects they have on the body.

Tanning salons are more concerned with UVA rays.  These UVA rays create the bronze-brown tan coveted by most salon-goers.  Most tanning salons regulate their beds to emit approximately 95% of UVA rays. It maximizes the tanning effects of the booth and minimizes the risk of burning. Unfortunately, it also minimizes the amount of vitamin D that can be used in proportion to the exposure to damaging UVA rays.

There are also studies that explain that indoor tanning devices increased risk of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. So before trying or considering indoor tanning, be aware of the benefits it can give your skin and your body.

It is still advisable to just go to the beach, wear a bikini and get natural tan. Spending time in the sun can supply the body with vitamin D which is essential in helping to defend against depression, heart disease, stroke, cancer and osteoporosis.

Natural way is still the best way.

7 Must-Have Accessories for Summer

It is never too late to plan for your beachwear accessories. With a perfect bikini or that smashing hot one-piece, you are probably thinking of having that nice summer bag to hold your towel, sunscreen and books. From adorable hats to comfy flip flops, here are the must-haves for girls every summer.

Hats - traditionally we wear large brimmed hats, but nowadays headscarves are more in demand. Headscarves have all the style of a straw hat without the bulkiness and in a much little portable package that can easily tuck in a bag.

Beach Towel – bulky towels are so out of date.  Most women use Turkish towels because it is twice absorbent than ordinary towels and can easily dry your skin and with its 100 percent cotton hand woven fabric it can also be used as beach blankets or wraps.

Beach Bags – beach bags can serve many purposes. The most popular style is an oversized stripe tote bag of any color. Whether you are headed to the beach or pool, this style works out the best. Another one is a tote bag made of plastic. Using a tote bag made of plastic is practical as you don’t have to worry about waves reaching your belongings.

Sunglasses - the easiest way to switch up your look through accessories is with a pair of sunglasses.  Any style can go with any outfit of your choice. Whether it is classic aviators or oversized sunglasses, it will be your good company to the beach.

Beach-friendly Bling - a beach bling is a must but remember when at the beach, less is always more. Try to use a chunky resin bracelet for that extra glam look. You can also look for handmade shell bangles or floral statement necklaces.

Flip-Flops – Protect your feet from the hot sand with a cute pair of flip-flops.  From vibrant colors up to classic black or white that can go along with you from morning dip up to night beach parties.

Cover ups - Cover ups come up with different styles and prints to match your individual taste and shape.  A matching sundress or cover up is the best accessory for your favorite swimsuit or bikini.  Another style is what you call pull-overs which often feature embroidered necklines and chic eye-catching details on the sleeves.

Pull together some of these beach accessories and put them in a super cute beach tote for the perfect summer.

How To Deal With Beach Nuisances

Who doesn’t love a vacation at the beach?  From building sand castles to watching the perfect view of the sunset or enjoying beach parties, no wonder it’s one of the most popular destinations all over the world.  However, the ocean and everything around it is unpredictable and can be a dangerous place.  Here are the 7 beach nuisances that you should know and be safe about.  Once you have knowledge and a little know-how, you can stay at the beach with confidence.

Rip Currents

If you get caught in a rip current, don't panic! Stay calm and do not fight the current. Escape the current by swimming across it--parallel to shore--until you are out of the current. Be cautious at all times and do not overestimate your swimming abilities.

Jellyfish Sting

Jellyfish stings are relatively common problems for people swimming seawaters. If stung by a jellyfish, call emergency services and seek immediate help. Get out of the water and avoid applying vinegar to the affected area.

Weather

Frightening news about tsunamis and typhoons can ruin your vacation. Be alert and always watch weather news. It is best to know the facts about uncommon occurrences or other coastal disasters for you to be prepared.

Sunburn

According to Skin Cancer Research, sunburn doubles the risk of the development of melanoma later in life that makes the skin looking worst.  Prevention is always the best so include sunblock with high SPF as part of your beach necessities and apply as often as needed.

Falling Coconuts

This is not a joke. Falling coconuts are a real threat. Just think of a nine-pound ball of coconut meat dropping 100 feet to the ground can cause serious injury to a beachgoer.  Don't park your towel in close proximity to palm trees and don’t have sun bathing near these trees, especially on windy beaches.

Sting Rays

If any sea-dwelling animal brings chills to a swimmer’s spine, that’s the stingray. It's safe to swim alongside this sea creature—but the real danger lies at your feet. Do the stingray shuffle. When wandering in shallow waters, shift your feet back and forth in place. This helps to scare off nearby rays hiding in the sand.

Sand Flies

Sand Flies are insects that breed in wet soils in the tidal zones such as mangrove mud and sandy shores.  Apply natural or organic insect repellants that has been scientifically proven to be more effective.  Don’t forget cover ups especially while on beach.

Following these precautions and tips above will keep the fun under the sun!

Why Surf?

Riding a wave is like the “Perfect Storm”. A simultaneous occurrence of events that provide an opportunity to become “One with Nature” while experiencing the magical feeling of “flying” we imagined as kids along with the sense of achievement that we crave as adults. Total fulfillment on all levels; hence the addiction. -Kathy Pommet

One of the most popular water sports nowadays is surfing.  It has caught on Philippines in the more recent years.  So curious, what’s the fuss about?

As for most surfers, this sport gives the feeling of freedom and adventure.  Surfing is the most interesting water sport that has developed in all other board sports through time.  It is also one of the most liberating sports ever created.

Based on research here are 5 most popular reasons why you should try surfing:

wearsundae-surfph
Freedom - The ocean is magnificent, peaceful and awesome.  So for surfers, once you are paddling or even already in the waves, you can feel the essence of freedom within you.  Just feeling the water against you while you are waiting for the next wave can be some of the most peaceful moments of your life.

Closer to Nature -  Whether you are a morning person or a fan of sunset, surfing has a bonus of seeing the most colorful skies Mother Nature has to offer.  When a person learns to surf, they’re more likely to be environmentalists at the same time.  And we do need more people who are enthusiasts of protecting nature.

Friends - The best thing about surfing is meeting people with the same interest.  Appreciating nature, finding ecstasy riding the waves and also being with the elements are the reasons why surfers get along in a special way.  Surfing may be all about the adrenaline rush or an unobvious pursuit of inner peace but having some people to share it is even better.

Travel - Surfers get to travel a lot to different places to try different waves.  Some of the most travelled countries for surfing are Indonesia, Philippines, Costa Rica, France, Ireland and Norway.  It is exciting to get on wild waves and it is even more exciting to get to see vast oceans and great beaches.  To be a lifestyle surfer is one of the world’s greatest blessing.

Fitness - Surfing is also about getting fit.  It is beneficial to the body as all physical activities are with the exception that you get to do it in the water and with great sights.  With the constant movement in the waves, surfing can help you tone your muscles, lose weight and even avoid serious diseases like heart disease.

No words will be able to explain that incredible excitement that comes from riding the waves and being one with the ocean.  Find that passion to master it just because it isn’t easy, and it may be fulfilling to one’s true physical and mental potential.  Or, at least find that courage to try.
