Tanning Clinics – Is it safe?

Sunless tanning are in demand nowadays.  If you don’t want to be exposed to too much sun but still want that sun-kissed glow then it’s the right thing for you. However, is it really safe to choose indoor tanning?

When natural sunlight is hard to be seen, it might be tempting to replace time in the sun with a quick visit to a tanning bed.  But does tanning clinics provide the same healthy benefits as sunlight?  Particularly, are tanning beds a safe source of vitamin D?

Tanning salons might like you to believe they are. Don’t be fooled and be cautious. Tanning indoors is not a good source of vitamin D. The reason is because of the harmful characteristics and effects of ultraviolet light rays, and the effects they have on the body.

Tanning salons are more concerned with UVA rays.  These UVA rays create the bronze-brown tan coveted by most salon-goers.  Most tanning salons regulate their beds to emit approximately 95% of UVA rays. It maximizes the tanning effects of the booth and minimizes the risk of burning. Unfortunately, it also minimizes the amount of vitamin D that can be used in proportion to the exposure to damaging UVA rays.

There are also studies that explain that indoor tanning devices increased risk of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. So before trying or considering indoor tanning, be aware of the benefits it can give your skin and your body.

It is still advisable to just go to the beach, wear a bikini and get natural tan. Spending time in the sun can supply the body with vitamin D which is essential in helping to defend against depression, heart disease, stroke, cancer and osteoporosis.

Natural way is still the best way.

Why Surf?

Riding a wave is like the “Perfect Storm”. A simultaneous occurrence of events that provide an opportunity to become “One with Nature” while experiencing the magical feeling of “flying” we imagined as kids along with the sense of achievement that we crave as adults. Total fulfillment on all levels; hence the addiction. -Kathy Pommet

One of the most popular water sports nowadays is surfing.  It has caught on Philippines in the more recent years.  So curious, what’s the fuss about?

As for most surfers, this sport gives the feeling of freedom and adventure.  Surfing is the most interesting water sport that has developed in all other board sports through time.  It is also one of the most liberating sports ever created.

Based on research here are 5 most popular reasons why you should try surfing:

Freedom - The ocean is magnificent, peaceful and awesome.  So for surfers, once you are paddling or even already in the waves, you can feel the essence of freedom within you.  Just feeling the water against you while you are waiting for the next wave can be some of the most peaceful moments of your life.

Closer to Nature -  Whether you are a morning person or a fan of sunset, surfing has a bonus of seeing the most colorful skies Mother Nature has to offer.  When a person learns to surf, they’re more likely to be environmentalists at the same time.  And we do need more people who are enthusiasts of protecting nature.

Friends - The best thing about surfing is meeting people with the same interest.  Appreciating nature, finding ecstasy riding the waves and also being with the elements are the reasons why surfers get along in a special way.  Surfing may be all about the adrenaline rush or an unobvious pursuit of inner peace but having some people to share it is even better.

Travel - Surfers get to travel a lot to different places to try different waves.  Some of the most travelled countries for surfing are Indonesia, Philippines, Costa Rica, France, Ireland and Norway.  It is exciting to get on wild waves and it is even more exciting to get to see vast oceans and great beaches.  To be a lifestyle surfer is one of the world’s greatest blessing.

Fitness - Surfing is also about getting fit.  It is beneficial to the body as all physical activities are with the exception that you get to do it in the water and with great sights.  With the constant movement in the waves, surfing can help you tone your muscles, lose weight and even avoid serious diseases like heart disease.

No words will be able to explain that incredible excitement that comes from riding the waves and being one with the ocean.  Find that passion to master it just because it isn’t easy, and it may be fulfilling to one’s true physical and mental potential.  Or, at least find that courage to try.
